Players are most closely monitored during a trial through various pre-planned activities which take into account different aspects of football performance:
Passing, Dribbling, Shooting, Ball Control, First touch and finishing abilities are assessed.
Players are evaluated through positioning, decision-making, spatial awareness and the cognitive aspect of the game.
Speed, stamina, agility, strength and general conditioning are measured.
Players compete in competitive game play or small-sided matches to show their teamwork, tactics and ability under pressure.
At the end of the trial, they provide some direction on what players need to work on and also inform them if there is an area within the academy where they can bring someone in.
Games are set up to be fair, competitive, and with opportunities for every kid to demonstrate their skills, try hard at something difficult, and exhibit a willingness to play in an unfamiliar setting.
