At the Legend Football Academy, we use a series of Football Trials to help young players who would like to be coached in football. Trials are a crucial aspect of our academy’s commitment to identifying and producing talented young footballers. They give our coaching staff the opportunity to evaluate a players’ technical skills, their tactical knowledge and decision-making ability, their level of fitness and what we believe is most important – what kind of potential they have for development in a competitive but friendly setting.

Purpose of the Trials

What to Expect During Trials

Players are most closely monitored during a trial through various pre-planned activities which take into account different aspects of football performance:

Technical Drills

Passing, Dribbling, Shooting, Ball Control, First touch and finishing abilities are assessed.

Tactical Awareness

Players are evaluated through positioning, decision-making, spatial awareness and the cognitive aspect of the game.

Athletic Ability

Speed, stamina, agility, strength and general conditioning are measured.

Match Play

Players compete in competitive game play or small-sided matches to show their teamwork, tactics and ability under pressure.

Coach Feedback

At the end of the trial, they provide some direction on what players need to work on and also inform them if there is an area within the academy where they can bring someone in.

Games are set up to be fair, competitive, and with opportunities for every kid to demonstrate their skills, try hard at something difficult, and exhibit a willingness to play in an unfamiliar setting.
